The Matakki Talon is a proper professional cutting scissor that sits comfortably in the serious end of Matakki's range. At 7" it's built for barbers, scissor-over-comb specialists, men's cutting, and any stylist working with longer blades as their main tool. Hand-crafted from Japanese VG-10 steel with a fully convex edge and Matakki's exclusive Teflon rider technology, the Talon delivers a cutting feel that genuinely puts it a class above most scissors at this size.

Japanese VG-10 steel: the gold standard

The Talon is forged from VG-10 steel sourced from the Takefu company in Japan. VG-10 is widely considered the gold standard for professional scissor-making, prized for its exceptional hardness (typically Rockwell 61), outstanding edge retention, and resistance to corrosion. A well-made VG-10 scissor holds its sharpness for significantly longer than a 440C-grade scissor, which is why the premium end of the industry — Matakki's 5 Star Elite range included — almost all use VG-10 or a closely related high-carbon alloy as the steel of choice.

Fully convex edge and redesigned sword blade

The Talon features a fully convex cutting edge, which is the sharpest and smoothest blade geometry available. Where bevelled blades give you durability and semi-convex blades give you a compromise, fully convex blades deliver the effortless slicing feel that makes professional cutting tools worth the investment. Matakki have also redesigned the sword blade profile on the Talon specifically to create a cleaner, more powerful cutting motion. The wider blade profile gives you real versatility between blunt cutting and slice cutting, which is unusual in a 7" scissor where most options specialise heavily into one technique.

Teflon rider: the detail that makes the difference
