Foil Rolls

Cut to whatever length the section needs, with nothing wasted. Foil rolls give you complete control over sheet size, which is why most colourists keep one on the trolley even when they also run a pop-up dispenser. We stock embossed and smooth foil across a range of widths, lengths and gauges, for everything from fine weaving to full head balayage.

When a roll beats a pop-up

We colour hair every day in the salon in Codsall, and the split is fairly simple. Rolls win on cost per metre and on flexibility, so they are the sensible choice for long hair, for oversized sections, and for anyone who colours often enough to notice the difference on the wholesale bill. Pop-up foils win on speed, since you can pull a sheet one handed without stopping. Plenty of colourists run both, using the roll for the bulk of the work and pop-ups for quick root touch ups.

Embossed or smooth foil

Embossed foil carries a raised pattern that grips the hair and holds a fold, so packets stay where you put them instead of creeping down the section. It is the more forgiving option and the one we would point most people towards. Smooth foil is thinner and more pliable, which suits soft, blended techniques where a stiff packet would press a visible line into the hair. Gauge matters too. Heavier foil holds its shape better under a bulky section, while lighter foil is easier to fold quickly and takes up less room on the trolley.

Widths and lengths

Narrower rolls suit fine weaves, hairline work and fringe sections where a wide sheet just gets in the way. Standard widths handle the majority of highlighting on mid lengths. Wider rolls come into their own for balayage, creative colour and thicker sections where you need the foil to wrap fully without the ends sitting exposed. Roll length is worth checking before you order, as two rolls at the same width can differ substantially in how long they last.

Cutting and handling

A foil dispenser with a cutting edge is the single best upgrade if you work from rolls regularly, as it saves tearing against the box and gives you a clean straight edge every time. Cut a stack of sheets before you start rather than mid application, and fold the top edge over at the root to keep lightener off the scalp. Store rolls somewhere dry and away from the backwash, since damp cardboard cores start to warp and the foil never feeds cleanly after that.
