Copper is one of the most beautiful shades to wear and, sadly, one of the fastest to fade. Elgon I-Care in Copper (C/4) is a direct, mid-intensity colour cream designed to keep those warm tones alive between one colour service and the next. There's no developer or mixing involved, so it's straightforward to use at home, and it helps condition the hair as it works, leaving it glossy and refreshed rather than dried out.

What it does for your hair

I-Care uses direct dyes that deposit colour without any activator, so the shade sits on the hair and gradually washes away over roughly five to six shampoos (longer on more porous hair), with no visible roots or regrowth line as it fades. Alongside the colour, emollient and film-forming conditioners help condition the hair during and after application, adding shine and a smoother feel. It's a lovely way to keep Copper looking fresh and vivid, or to add a warm nuance to natural hair. It isn't designed to fully cover grey, it refreshes and tones rather than providing solid coverage.

How to use it

1. Carry out an allergy alert test at least 48 hours before each application (see below).
2. Wash the hair and towel-dry so it's damp, not soaking.
3. Wearing gloves, apply the cream evenly through the hair, section by section, then comb through to distribute.
4. Leave on for 3 to 10 minutes depending on how much colour you want (less time for a subtle refresh, longer for a richer result). On very porous hair, keep the time at the shorter end.
5. Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water, then style as usual.
