Paul Mitchell Hair Styling Products: 96 Ways to Finish a Look
Paul Mitchell's styling range is enormous, and that's because hair is. The brand makes a different product for genuinely different jobs: a paste for textured separation, a primer for blow-drying, a glaze for slick wet looks, a hairspray that doesn't go crunchy, a pomade that doesn't go cement. Pick the right one and the result looks effortless. Pick the wrong one and you've just put gel where you needed cream.
Every product on this page is genuine Paul Mitchell, sourced through authorised UK distribution. We've sold professional haircare at Revive in Codsall for over a decade and use most of these on clients in the salon, so if you get stuck between two options, drop us a message and we'll talk you through it.
What Are You Trying to Do?
- Heat-style without frying your hair: Neuro Protect (heat protection spray) and Neuro Prime Blowout Primer. The Neuro line was built around modern hot tools, so the formulas are designed for 230°C styling rather than 1980s blow-dryers.
- Hold a sharp, structured men's style: MITCH High Hold Pomade or MITCH Iron Grip for serious hold; MITCH Steady Grip or Construction Paste for a more flexible finish. MITCH Reformer and Matterial give you a matte, lived-in texture if shine isn't the goal.
- Get a clean, slicked-back classic look: MITCH Original Pomade or MITCH Clean Cut for the wet-look polish.
- Add shine without weight: Awapuhi Wild Ginger Shine Spray for a fine mist of gloss, or the Awapuhi Treatment Oil if you want something more nourishing.
- Build volume in fine or flat hair: Super Sculpt Styling Glaze for a flexible hold with body, or look for Extra-Body Sculpting Foam and Hair Sculpting Lotion in the classic range.
- Lock everything in place: a range of hairsprays from working sprays (build-as-you-go) to fixing sprays (set and forget). The Awapuhi range and the Clean Beauty Style line both offer their own.
- Repair while styling: Bond RX, a leave-in bonding treatment for chemically damaged hair. Premium price point, premium results.
The Paul Mitchell Styling Sub-Lines
Paul Mitchell organises its styling range into distinct lines, each built around a different brief. Knowing which one you're shopping makes everything easier.
- The Original Line: The classics, including Super Sculpt, Hair Sculpting Lotion, Foaming Pomade and Sculpting Foam. Versatile, well-priced, and the products most stylists trained on.
- MITCH: Men's grooming, designed for short to medium men's styles. Pomades, pastes, putties and grooming gels with names that tell you what they do (Steady Grip, Iron Grip, Clean Cut, Construction Paste).
- Neuro: Built specifically for heat styling. Lightweight primers, heat protectants, and finishing sprays formulated to perform under modern hot tools.
- Awapuhi Wild Ginger: The premium women's line, leaning into shine, softness and frizz control. The Shine Spray and Treatment Oil are the standout pieces.
- Tea Tree Style: Refreshing, lightly fragranced styling products built around tea tree, peppermint and lavender. Crosses over with the well-known Tea Tree haircare range.
- Clean Beauty Style: Vegan, sulphate-free, paraben-free styling pieces in bio-plastic bottles. The same Clean Beauty philosophy applied to finishing products.
- Express Style and Express Dry: Quick-styling formulas for blow-out shortcuts and faster routines.

Paul Mitchell Styling FAQs
What's the difference between MITCH and the rest of Paul Mitchell?
MITCH is Paul Mitchell's men's grooming sub-brand, built for shorter, structured men's styles and packaged in slim metal tins. The formulas are designed around the way men typically style: smaller amounts, more focused application, hold rather than volume. Women can absolutely use MITCH (and plenty do), and men can use the wider Paul Mitchell range, but MITCH is purpose-built for men's cuts.
Is MITCH pomade water-based or oil-based?
It depends on the product. MITCH Clean Cut and Original Pomade are water-based, meaning they wash out cleanly with shampoo. MITCH High Hold and a few of the heavier waxes have a slightly stiffer base. None of the MITCH range uses old-school petroleum-heavy formulas, so washing out is straightforward across the line.
Do I need a heat protectant before using straighteners or curling tongs?
Yes, every time. Modern hot tools run hot enough to damage hair within seconds at the highest settings, and a heat protectant creates a barrier that helps reduce moisture loss and surface damage. Neuro Protect or Neuro Prime are the Paul Mitchell options designed specifically for this. Apply to damp or dry hair before any heat tool, including blow-dryers.
Will Paul Mitchell hairspray leave my hair crunchy?
The right one won't. Working sprays like Awapuhi Mirror Smooth and the Soft Style range are designed to brush through cleanly and stay flexible. The fixing sprays (heavier hold, designed for finished styles) hold firmer but still avoid that 1990s helmet feel. If you're not sure which to start with, a working spray gives you more forgiveness.
Are Paul Mitchell styling products vegan?
The Clean Beauty Style range is fully vegan. Tea Tree, Awapuhi and large parts of the Original line are also vegan, but specific MITCH and Neuro products can vary. Paul Mitchell as a brand is cruelty-free across the board. Check individual product pages for confirmation on vegan status.
What's the difference between a paste, a pomade, a clay and a wax?
Pomades give the most shine and slip, best for slicked or classic styles. Pastes are matte-to-low-shine and give workable, separated texture (good for messy, modern men's styles). Clays are heavier, matte, and give the strongest hold for short, textured cuts. Waxes sit in the middle, giving definition and shine without the heaviness of a clay.
How much should I use per application?
Less than you think. For pomades and pastes, start with a pea-sized amount, emulsify between your palms until clear, then work through dry hair. For sprays, hold the can 20cm to 30cm from your head and use short bursts. You can always add more; you can't take it back out without rewashing.
