Purple Shampoo
We stock some of the most popular and trusted professional purple shampoos in the hairdressing industry here at Revive Hair Artists in Codsall. If you have bleached, blonde or grey hair, you may notice that over time your hair can start to develop yellow or brassy tones. Even straight after bleaching your hair may already have yellow or brassy tones. Purple shampoo has been designed to neutralise those yellow and brassy tones and give you back salon clean colour.
Think of purple shampoo as a toning treatment rather than an everyday shampoo. For most people, once or twice a week is all you need. Use your regular shampoo day to day and bring the purple shampoo in when you start to notice brassiness creeping back in. Leave it on for 3 to 5 minutes as a general rule, although if your hair is very porous or freshly bleached you will want to keep a close eye on timing as it can deposit faster. If you are finding purple shampoo a little too intense for your hair, have a look at our colour depositing shampoo collection as a gentler alternative.
We have tried and tested more purple shampoos than we can count over the last 10 years and we have certainly developed a few firm favourites in that time. Here is what we would personally recommend depending on your hair.
For very yellow or brassy hair — Fanola
If your hair is quite yellow and brassy then we would go straight for a Fanola. There are two heavily pigmented purple shampoos in the Fanola collection that we have fallen in love with. The Fanola Wonder No Yellow Shampoo and the tried and tested Fanola No Yellow Shampoo. The No Yellow is a genuine staple next to our basins and is one of the most heavily pigmented purple shampoos on the market. It works incredibly fast so just be careful with your timing.
For bleached or bond-treated hair — Olaplex
If you are concerned about the integrity of your blonde hair and you have been treating it with Olaplex, the Olaplex No.4P Blonde Enhancer Toning Shampoo is a brilliant choice. We have found it is not as heavily pigmented as some of the others on the market but it does exactly what it says on the label and it helps to maintain the integrity of your hair alongside the toning. If your hair has been through a lot, this is the one we would reach for.
For a great all-rounder — Fudge
My personal favourite is the Fudge Professional Clean Blonde Violet-Toning Shampoo. This is an incredibly heavily pigmented purple shampoo that I was personally obsessed with for a long time. It is fast working, smells great and it is just a fantastic all-round purple shampoo that will not break the bank. Brilliant for regular maintenance.
For a gradual, gentler tone — Moroccanoil
The Moroccanoil Blonde Perfecting Purple Shampoo is one of our most popular sellers and is perfect if you want a more gradual tone without the risk of overdoing it. Far less likely to cause any unwanted purple cast and brilliant for weekly maintenance use.
Brands we stock
We carry professional purple shampoo from Fanola, Olaplex, Fudge, Moroccanoil, Amika, Redken, Schwarzkopf Professional, L'Oreal Professionnel, Joico, milk_shake, Affinage and more.
If you have ever used purple shampoo and accidentally ended up with purple hair, do not panic. Have a read of our blog post on what to do when purple shampoo turns your hair purple — it happens to more people than you would think and it is very easy to fix.
