What Is Hair Powder?

Hair powder (also called texture powder, styling powder, volume dust or hair dust) is a fine, lightweight styling product that sits between individual strands to create friction, lift and grip. The matte finish is invisible, there's no sticky residue, and it washes out with a normal shampoo. Most professional formulas are built around silica silylate, which absorbs excess oil while adding structure.

How to Use Hair Powder

Always apply to dry hair. Shake a small amount onto your fingertips or directly at the roots, work it through with your fingers (not your palms — fingertips give a more natural result), and style as normal. Start with less than you think you need and build up. If the volume drops during the day, tousle the roots with your fingers to reactivate the powder — no need to reapply.

Hair Powder vs Dry Shampoo: What's the Difference?

Dry shampoo is designed to cleanse between washes and absorb oil. Texture powder is designed to style. There's some overlap — both can add body — but a styling powder gives you genuine hold and separation that dry shampoo can't match. If you need your style to last, reach for a hair powder. If you're stretching a wash, reach for dry shampoo. Plenty of people use both.
