How to use heat protection spray properly

The most common mistake people make with heat protection is not using enough of it. You want to coat the hair evenly before applying any heat, spray through damp hair section by section before blow-drying, or through dry hair before using straighteners or tongs. Do not just spray on top of the hair and call it done. Work it through with your fingers or a comb to make sure every strand is coated.

The second most common mistake is using heat protection and then immediately cranking the temperature up to maximum. Heat protection buys you protection at recommended temperatures,  typically up to 220 or 230 degrees. If you are using a straightener at 240 degrees on fine or bleached hair, even the best heat protection spray is going to struggle. Use the highest temperature your hair genuinely needs, not the highest temperature the tool can reach.

Yes, genuinely. The difference between hair that has been heat styled consistently with protection versus hair that has not is very noticeable over time.
